Records of the Chicago Board of Underwriters, an insurance industry trade organization that supported fire patrols in Chicago ca. 1860s. Includes memorial on the deaths of Chicago firemen who died in the Union Stocks Yards fire, Dec. 22, 1910. Also present are 1866 constitution and by-laws; 1870 constitution; Board of Directors/Executive Committee minutes, 1926-1960; Patrolmen's Pension Fund minutes, 1935-1961; Fire Insurance Patrol Committee minutes, 1926-1960; and Membership Committee minutes, 1939-1948. Also present are bound volumes containing records of the Chicago Board of Underwriters, the Fire Insurance Patrol, and the Chicago Underwriters Association.

The Chicago Board of Underwriters was incorporated in 1861. The Fire Insurance Patrol was organized by the Chicago Board of Underwriters in 1871 to retrieving valuables from burning buildings, as well as to assist with fire inspection.
